As May 2013 came to a close, our “Seeds of Tomorrow” project began its seven week process to construct a seedling greenhouse for the community of Tactic. As employees from both Kubo Greenhouse Projects and Houweling’s Tomatoes flew down, we were greeted by bright faced Guatemalans eager to meet the strange people from Holland, Canada and the United States that were donating their time, money and sweat to help the community of Tactic.… Read more
Just over a year ago we started an initiative at our company called “THE VINE”. It’s a newsletter that we publish monthly in English and Spanish that provides the more than 750 employees at our two greenhouse farms updates from various departments. I believe it is important to ensure everyone in the company whether they are one of our dedicated workers tending to the vines, or the hard working people processing invoices, packing orders, selling our products etc, have an idea of what is going on outside of their individual roles/departments.… Read more
In early January, Casey’s daughter, Monica, along with Houweling’s team member Tara Tashiro, had the opportunity to visit Tactic, Guatemala, the site of Houweling’s Seeds of Tomorrow project. Their experience and the profound impact it had on them is shared below. (Editor’s note: total donations raised to date = $53,830 including the matched funds from Houweling’s.
